Development of Schematic Eye for Retinoscopy Training Using 3D Printer
Baek Chang-Hoon

Seo Jong-Mo
Abstract
Purpose: Design and build an affordable schematic eye using three-dimensional (3D) printer for retinoscopy training.

Methods: The schematic eye is printed using a fused deposition modeling-based 3D printer. The total of seven parts are printed and assembled. Additional components consist of a paper cylinder, +10 diopter spherical lens, and a tripod.

Results: The entire schematic eye can be created within an hour with a conventional 3D printer, and showed satisfactory function in the evaluation by the ophthalmology specialist. The optical error of the proposed schematic eye calculated by measuring printed model was less than 0.05 diopter.

Conclusions: By using 3D printer, simple and inexpensive schematic eye for training of retinoscopy was built. This concept can be applied to the similar devices in medical education and practice.
